The bank job (2008)

Director: Roger Donaldson

The movie is based on the 1971 Baker street robbery. The characters are all stylish and elegant and that is what I like about this film. Some of the facts are pretty shocking and that is a big plus, for me at least…

A bunch of photos with a royal personage are in the hands of a so called Michael X. A notorious offender who used the incriminating pictures, to keep himself out of prison.
Terry Leather (Jason Statham) has a small car-sale garage that is not going pretty well. He has debts to pay and he is harassed by the collectors. A friend, Martine Love, approaches Terry to propose a job that would make him rich; a bank robbery on Baker Street. The deal is on, and Terry gathers a team to help him execute the plan. They do some investigation, get a shop two doors away from the bank and they start digging. Because of the noise the neighbors call the cops but elegant con-man Guy Singer and Terry manage to get rid of them. They decide to get a watch man that would keep the crew informed with what is happening on the streets. Using walkie-talkie somebody overhear the conversation and call the police but they can’t get the exact bank that the lads are breaking in to. Everything else goes pretty smooth and they get into the vault, where they find a lot of money but a lot of documents that they can’t handle.
The beautiful part is that actually the security service MI5 is connected with Mrs. Love. They have information of the compromising pictures being in one of the safe deposit boxes.

i think it had too much to live up to with “the italian job”… it just wasn’t as good as the former… it’s a good movie, but not as good as the italian job
