Where theres a will theres a weapon…

I guess things in this life are easier than I thought. Wars and conflicts are a normal day to day fact, and are a necessity for the wellbeing of others.
Yuri Orlov is an Ukrainian that emigrated with his family from Odessa to the U.S. He was just living a boring life working for the family business, that didn’t go really well. But one day he witnessed a gunfire which changed his life. So he switches the restaurant business for the firearm industry and he starts by selling Uzi submachine guns. He convinces his brother to join him and they start searching for bigger profits by selling in the conflict zones. Yuri provided every army except the Salvation Army. Jack Valentine is an agent working for Interpol. He plays by the book and is perseverant in achivieing his goals on stopping the gun smugglers. Yuri at one transaction gets in exchange cocaine instead of money, and he and Vitaly, his brother, get high. The only problem is that Vitaly gets addicted and Yuri continues doing what he does best, alone. Jack is getting closer and closer but he doesn’t do anything but slow Yuri down for a wile…
I read a couple of articles about this movie and I didn’t figure out if it is made after a true story but I am sure that some things really happen. I think that the best part of the movie is that it actually shows the life of a business man in an industry in which you have to be cold blooded.

The story is mainly real. The guy was arrested in Thailand last year. Apparently he was also dealing with the “smart guys” in Romania as well:).

Only an 8% popularity on this movie? This movie was one of the best films I have ever seen!

Indeed, the story is based on the case of the notorious arms dealer and former KGB agent Viktor Bout, arrested in Thailand in 2008 under suspicion of violating the UN embargo and supplying weapons to conflict areas in Africa.
At university,at Globalization class, we had this movie as an icon on which we had to build our arguments.
Niccol has just built the ‘puzzle’ in terms of plot, scenes amazingly!
